New Years Day Ride 2023

Sunday morning January 1st, 2023.

This year I am going to ride more. I know, I know we’ve probably all said this at one time or another. However, I will make sure I do “Ride More” this year by implementing a few changes to my gear, setup, and even how I park my bike. More on this “Ride More” mentality in a later post.

I can’t think of a better way to start the new year than doing a New Years Day Ride.

At 9:00 am a friend showed up at my place and we chatted a moment or 5 and then put our jackets on and hit the road. The weather was mild around 45 degrees and was climbing to the mid 50’s this afternoon.

Started in Maryland, and rode north in Pennsylvania, and sort of hugged the coast of the Susquehanna river as much as possible.

Near Bridgeville, PA we came across this incredible frozen area of crushed ice that had flowed down from the north. Just a few miles north and south there was no ice at all.

Seeing the ice form like this was worth the trip alone but we found several great places to take in the river views. We crossed the rover on Route 30 bridge from Wrightsville to Columbia. From Columbia, we visited the Turkey Hill Experience gas station and market.

Here we ate breakfast and ran into several groups of other bikers. I would say there were 35 bikes there. Lots of Harleys, pretty sure we had the only Triumph and BMW in the group. We did see some Japanese sport bikes too.

After leaving Turkey Hill we headed south along the river. Our next place to visit was Pinnacle Overlook. It was almost empty there except for a few people, we had a cup of wine and took in the views!

This was basically the end of the tour minus our ride home which was about 45 minutes and easy riding. The entire ride lasted about 4.5 hours.

That was a successful and fun New Years Day Ride. Remember, you can’t ride all year if you don’t start in January!
